Jeffrey A. Wilson, Fire Chief
Jeff became Fire Chief of the Madison Township Fire Department (MTFD) on January 1, 2023. From the moment he walked into the Perry Township (IN) fire station as an elementary school student, he knew he wanted to be a fireman. He started pursuing his dream in 1979 when, as a high-schooler, he became a Cadet with the Perry Township Fire Department. After high school, he served as a volunteer firefighter with Wayne Township (IN) — and credits their excellent training program for the foundation of his knowledge and skills. While serving in that volunteer role, his paid job was as a Fire and EMS Dispatcher for the same Department.
His first career firefighter job started in 1992 with the Brownsburg (IN) Fire Department — where he went on to serve as Battalion Chief. In 2000, Jeff joined the White River Township (IN) Fire Department as a Lieutenant. He served as a firefighter and paramedic throughout his tenure there. He made Captain and then Battalion Chief. He retired from the department in 2018 as Deputy Chief of Operations.
Jeff received his Associate’s Degree in fire science from Columbia Southern University. He also holds the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Officer III qualification and successfully completed the National Fire Academy’s command and control program.
Jeff and his wife Kathy (his high school sweetheart) retired and moved to Florida where he served as a paramedic with the Lee County (FL) EMS until they returned to Indiana in 2021. Jeff joined the MTFD in June 2021 as Lieutenant and was subsequently promoted to Captain.
When asked why he took this position, Jeff shared his passion for this work … “Something bit me when I was young. Being a fireman is something in your heart, it’s something you can’t explain. The relief in someone’s eyes when they are at their darkest moment and the fire truck or paramedics pull up is so special. I can’t explain it. I took the Fire Chief position because I saw the need and wanted to step up and help the Department, and community I have grown to love.”

Anthony McClure, Deputy Chief
Anthony McClure has served as Deputy Chief of the Madison Township Fire Department (MTFD) since April 2020. As a young child, he knew he wanted to have a career in the fire service. In high school he joined the Indianapolis Fire Department Explorer’s program and served throughout school. After high school, Tony joined the Wayne Township (IN) Volunteer Fire Department where he served until 2001. He credits that department with providing him with the initial training and experiences to prepare him for his current role.
Tony joined the MTFD in May 1995 – serving as a paid standby member of the department. Shortly thereafter, Tony and his family relocated to Madison Township and he became a volunteer for the department. During his tenure at MTFD, he has served in many different roles.
Tony and his wife Denise have five children and have lived in Madison Township since 2007. They enjoy the community and like being involved with community events and growth.
As Deputy Chief, one of his many responsibilities – and the one he says is most important – is community relations. Tony says that, “I feel the more the community is involved and given opportunities to learn about what we do, the more the community will know that its Fire Department is there for them. I enjoy serving the residents, business owners and commuters as their Deputy Chief.”
